Best Dressed at the Nickelodeon Awards

I heart the Nickelodeon Awards. They let stars dress up but look cool 'cause they don't have to wear a ballgown. So we get a lot more out of what they're wearing and can much more easily work their look into our life. Here's who rocked, and who sucked ...

BEST IN SHOW: Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz is looking SO good right now. A spotted top that's a little bit blousy makes her bottom half look extra tiny. A pair of ripped, skinny jeans should be on your list to buy right this second. Love how her accessories don't match but work together with the whole outfit - black shoes, a red clutch and white belt. She keeps everything simple but striking.


SHE SHOULD'VE KNOWN BETTER: Megan Fox

So she's freakishly beautiful. But she hasn't got her style right just yet, everything is just slightly off. Her hair is a little too long, that jacket is a bit too short for the top, the top is a bit too blousy and long for the jacket, she should be wearing wedges with skinny jeans. I mean, overall it's fine. But she could be amaaaaaazing.


NATURALLY GORGEOUS: America Ferrara

If there's one girl who always looks amazing and doesn't care that she's not the usual Hollywood Skeletor, it's America Ferrarra. Girls with curves should take note of the way she wraps her incredible body with the latest clothes. This ruched number hugs her lower half and hides any lumpy bits, while the longer sleeves and low v-cut flatter her upper body and make for flattering proportions. A total standout in the watermelon colour too.


FASHION FORWARD: Amber Valetta

I'm a little divided about this dress. On the one hand, I love it 'cause it's fun and that's what I love about the Kids Choice Awards. On the other, it's a little too graphic for my liking. But I think Amber Valetta is one of those fashion forward people and I'll probably be wanting this dress in a month or two. Note, this is the new way to wear a shift dress - with ankle boots and a clutch, not with strappy heels and shoulder bag.


TRYING TOO HARD, 1: Lisa Rinna

Trying too hard to fit in, to look young, to be a hottie, to look on trend, to get her picture taken, to go out partying with the young folk afterwards. The only thing that's working on this outfit is those shoes, and even they're from last season. But they're still amazing. Note: belted long tops are really not what you should be wearing right now. Much better to leave it loose by itself or wear a vest with it.


TRYING TOO HARD, 2: Miley Cyrus

I have issues with Miley Cyrus. Lots of them. But I won't go into that, I'll just talk about what I'm here to talk about: that dress. Look, it's pretty, it really is a beautiful dress. But she's at the Kid's Choice Awards, where everyone has taken the opportunity to dress down in jeans. Why is she constantly trying to prove that she's glamorous. She's sixteen, she has plenty of time to wear a long gown when she's older. Or getting married.


BEST ROCK CHICK: Ashley Tisdale

Ashley Tisdale shows every other starlet how to look super hot at these awards. Love her black jewelled dress, the open-toed ankle boots, the small clutch and that wrist thing she has going on. Also love her darker hair and that look on her face. She rocks.

How to ... not look like you've tried too hard

Fearne has really hit the fashion nail on the head with this dressed down outfit. Love how she's started with a basic black dress, opaque tights and then co-ordinated red Converse and a red Balenciaga bag with her Top Shop hoodie.

Carefully applied make-up keeps the look from being too tomboy-ish. Definitely an outfit for you to copy when the weather gets cooler.

Rihanna, catwoman

I know everyone's focused on her gun tattoo at the moment. But more concerning, I think, and much more telling of her mental state: those NAILS!

Seriously. What is she thinking she needs those for?

Mischa plays with crayons

Help! Mischa Barton's mum has been letting her play dressups in her room again. She's stupidly mistaken crayon for eyeliner and drawn big uneven lines around her eyes, then rifled through the accessories drawer and come up with a blue feather headband. Because ... ?

Not even Olivia Newton-John would have worn that back in the day.

Is Mischa threatened that Elle Macpherson is going to get all the attention in their new show, A Beautiful Life, if it goes to air?

This is a surefire way to get attention honey! But I'm not sure it's the kind you're after!

Look mum, no fringe!

It took a little while, but Jessica Alba has finally realised how horrible and mumsy her thick fringed bob was making her look, and she's pinned all offending locks out of site.

Back to form, just the way we like her. Love her earrings. Told you big earring were the NBT!

Not sure about the heavy opaques on the bottom when she's so bare on top though. It almost makes her look bottom heavy when it should be doing the opposite.

Shock value Agy

I can't imagine what goes on in Agyness Dean's head. But I'm going to try.

As far as I can gather, once she got a boyfriend (Albert Hammond Jnr from the Strokes), she lost the weird hair, crazy outfits, interesting footwear choices and she actually started to look quite pretty. Her hair was ... flat on her head at least, and she wore girly makeup. It was a very interesting transition from weirdo-chucking-everything-on-in-her-closet-at-once to I'm-going-to-make-an-effort-so-he-remembers-I'm-a-woman.

Then last week they broke up.


Since then, she's definitely dipping her toe back in the dark side. How do you think this hair makes her feel? I'm not sure she's going to attract a new hottie like this.

Paris Hilton + Kathy Griffin filming some reality show

Wow, I didn't expect Kathy Griffin to look this good in a bikini. I guess in Hollywood, even if you're on the D-List you work out like you're on the A-List.

I wouldn't stand next to Paris Hilton though - look at her accessories! Platform pumps, a chiffon sarong and that thing around her head. A cute look if she was going to, I don't know, a nightclub. But not really suitable pool attire. Still, gotta hand it to her, she looks hot. So much better since she got rid of those awful hair extensions.

I have a theory about why young rich socialites are also gorgeous, want to hear it?

Quite easy: money marries beauty.

So rich men marry gorgeous women and they create beautiful children. Seems all rather unfair doesn't it, like a cycle of money and hotness we're never going to be able to get a foot into.

Lilo on Nylon, with the much talked about interview where she says she wants to be a model. Aha. Also blabs about the "new project" she's working on with Sean Penn and how they're "calling Seth Rogen but he won't return our calls". Like, she and Sean are sitting side by side at the phone dialling Seth's number? Highly doubtful.

Regardless, I like this shot of her. She's not orange. Her hair is glossy. It's a fashion-y shot, love the shoulders on the jacket. Not sure about the pants. I do love how they've put her on the cover of the party issue with the coverline "party like it's 1999". Awesome people at Nylon.

Not so sure about the coverline: "pin up for a new era". Lord help the next generation if they're looking up to her. Though I guess she's more interesting than, say, Anne Hathaway, right? You know how much I love her not.

Sienna Miller combs hair!

Sometimes, Sienna Miller looks pretty. Real pretty. Not like the skanky ho she sometimes acts like.

Here, she's got a simple outfit on, which you know what? Actually works, Sienna. Sometimes it's nice to go out without wearing a scarf as a top and a belt as a shoe, you know?

I like the way her blazer is a little oversized and her white shirt sits almost at the bottom of her shorts. Black opaques and black boots. Easy dressing. I've been saying it over and over ladies, easy dressing is the way to go this winter.

Forget tricky. Downplay the clothes. Wear pretty earrings instead.

Blake Lively and the Bold Dress

LOVING the one-shouldered dress my second favourite Gossip Girl wore to David Letterman. It's so bright! Shiny! Suits her skin tone! Makes her look fantabulous! The perfect dress for in-between seasons, ie right now.

Apparently, David Letterman thought so too. The awkward flirting and obvious compliments are kinda hard to watch. And the way he lapped up her stories!

She asked for it though, after last year's performance when she told him her childhood crush hadn't dissipated, that he was in the same league as Leonardo di Caprio for her, and he kissed her hand.

This time round there's a lot of thigh touching, flirty laughing, hair flicking and digs about a threesome with Julia Roberts. Watch it here.

Rachel just got up

OK. So, like, if I was Rachel McAdams and one of the most beautiful girls in the world, I would probably dress down too. Look at that face. Does she need to wear anything fancy?

Clearly not.

But I wouldn't choose to wear this either. The red tartan overcoat would have looked great over leggings and flat black books, but her everyday blue jeans and those moccassin/desert boot things with the laces undone is really like a cry for help, don't you think?

Not sure what she's got to cry for help about, Josh Lucas is scrumptious and he puts up with her poor dress sense.

Scarlett figures out how to dress now that she's brunette

Looks like Scarlett is growing into her new dramatic look. Thankfully she's realised that when you change your hair colour so drastically, you also need to change your clothes and makeup to go with it.

Darker eye makeup for one, so her face doesn't look washed out. She's really hit the style spot with the dress too - lacy, black and cinched in at the waist - does all the right things for her curvy figure. It's romantic goth but still so sexy and feminine.

Ladylike style

Do you love this on Kerry Washington? I do. For those days you're feeling a bit assy. You know, after the fourth Krispy Kreme.

A tucked in blouse over a high waisted voluminous skirt is the perfect way to create a waist, and still hide any thigh baggage you may be carrying. Love the accessories too - while some might think the pearls are too much, I think they almost work as part of her blouse while the arm cuff and big earrings give her whole outfit a slight edge.

Hayden Paniettiere does good denim

Dear Jessica Simpson,
This is how to wear a pair of denim shorts if you're pint sized and don't have legs like Gisele. Like Hayden Panittiere. Just a little looser than you've been wearing them. A blousy top in a bright colour helps too. It's unfortunate we're giving you fashion tips from a celeb who's been on the circuit way less than you, but your recent outfits have left us with no choice. Please take note.

She's ditched the black and shown us how to golighty, while still keeping everything neutral and tonal. Light grey jacket + light blue jeans, a fitted sinlget and open white shirt. She just makes it all look so eeeeeeeeasy.

How she sets our fashion hearts a flutter ... last week she looked like a cross between a new castmember in the Twilight series and Courtney Love with her too-blonde locks and deathly pale skin.

Today? A shining example of how much we love her look. I must admit though, I would have thought this was Ashley Olsen, not Mary Kate. In fact, I'm almost convinced the snapper taking this pic got it wrong. Where's her boho sense of style and John Lennon glasses (also of last week).


Whatever the case, whichever Olsen it is (and I'm told by reliable sources it's Mary-Kate but I still have my doubts), it's a great outfit.

A long black cardi underneath a camel overcoat with dark skinnies and new Stella McCartney mesh shoes. Natural toned make-up completes her warm look. I'm sure I've got a long jacket in my wardrobe somewhere, and of course a cardi and skinny jeans. Now all I need are those shoes. Which is always the way, isn't it?

Cindy Crawford naked

Oh to be a former supermodel. And be able to pose naked at 43 in Allure magazine with nothing but suds to cover your privates. How hard are her thighs? Ridiculous. Add her to the list of 40-something celebrities that are going to make sure we regular folk have to step it up on the pilates machine for an extra decade.

Hard thighs come at a price - a rather large one if you look at Jennifer Aniston. Does she really do yoga and pilates for four hours a day to get that body? According to a source who's close to her ex, John Mayer, that's exactly what she does, as well as scrutinising her appearance in the mirror for around six hours a day.

That's a full time job! Plus overtime!

I'm sorry, but if my career made me question my appearance to the point where I couldn't look away from the mirror, I'd have to rethink it, no matter how much money I made. That can't be healthy.

Tara's version of vintage

If you've ever been to LA, you'll know that celebrities only go to Mr Chow to be photographed (and celeb-obsessed people like me go in the hope of spotting Nicole Richie! Last time I saw Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, Kelly Rowland, Eve, Paula Abdul).

So Tara Reid knew she was going to be photographed. And she still wore this top. Which she must have found at a market somewhere cause everyone else threw theirs out five years ago, didn't they? Or they're keeping it at the back of their wardrobe until they can actually call it "vintage" - at least another couple of years.

She has been cast in something recently, but she's so forgettable I can't remember what. She's the kind of actress that makes you look at the screen and think "god, anyone could be in the movies".

At least she was photographed before she started on the lychee martinis.

Wow. This is Victoria Beckham in the new Armani ad. Talk about coming to the party and matching up to your husband's sexy Armani ads! I didn't know her body could look that good. Maybe she ate for it.

Reese as Alien

I'm not sure about this dress ... it's a little too alien for me. I know she's at the LA premiere of her new movie, Monsters vs Aliens, I know it was her 33rd birthday and she's in a party mood, but I don't think she had to go so with theme. You know?

I quite like Reese though, especially now that she's properly with Jake. I'm the first to admit I thought their relationship was one of those I'm-rebounding-from-my-asshole-husband-by-doing-my-hot-co-star relationships, but now they're engaged, well that's pretty cool.

I also used to think she was uptight and quite controlling (I actually heard that a quite a while ago) but now I get the feeling that Jake's coolness has rubbed off on her. Like I imagine she'd be a lot more relaxed now than when she was with her cheating ex-husband. My opinion of her has gone up tenfold.

Found: Best dress to look slimmer in. The single, lighter stripe down the front plus the darker panels on each side will make anyone look thinner, even if you're not Courtney Cox and don't have a personal trainer. The thin belt also helps.

Two new dress rules

Take a tip from model, daughter of cool people and all around London fashion A-lister Daisy Lowe. She wore a mannish black jacket over her pretty orange frock.
New rules: Team brights with black, she's not the only celeb who's done this.
And forget anything you used to read about what length coat goes with what length dress. Clearly, if you're fashion forward, you'll be able to get away with it.

Katie Holmes is back to her stylish best with this soft grey blazer and blue scarf combo. Love the skinny jeans that don't stick to her legs like glue but are more classic.
